When the Skin Barrier Improves, Children Itch Less
Why a Barrier-First Approach to Atopic Dermatitis Makes Biological Sense
In our randomized, double-blind, vehicle-controlled clinical study, children treated with IDL + IDC (with colloidal oatmeal) experienced:
✔ 45.5% achieved a clinically meaningful (≥4-point) reduction in itch at Week 4 vs. 6.3% with vehicle (p = 0.0085)
✔ Benefit was maintained through Week 8 (42.9% vs. 12.5%; p = 0.045)
✔ Significant improvement in quality of life (DLQI)
EASI50 and EASI75 also consistently favored the active treatment, although the exploratory study was not powered to demonstrate statistical significance for those endpoints.
What I find most compelling is that these pediatric clinical outcomes are consistent with our earlier mechanistic findings and adult clinical studies. The biology is becoming increasingly clear: restoring the skin barrier isn't simply moisturizing the skin; it can help break the itch cycle.
